Best method for planting Asparagus

Asparagus is one of the easiest long-term crops you can grow—and once it’s established, it’ll produce for 15–20 years. Start by planting crowns (not seeds) in early spring in a sunny, well-drained spot. Dig trenches about 6–8 inches deep, spread the roots out, and cover lightly with soil. As the plants grow, gradually fill in the trench. Keep the area weed-free and water regularly the first year. Don’t harvest right away—let the plants establish strong roots. By year 2–3, you can start cutting spears when they’re about 6–8 inches tall. With a little patience up front, asparagus will reward you with fresh harvests every spring for years to come.
