Best method for planting Asparagus

Asparagus is one of the easiest long-term crops you can grow—and once it’s established, it’ll produce for 15–20 years. Start by planting crowns (not seeds) in early spring in a sunny, well-drained spot. Dig trenches about 6–8 inches deep, spread the roots out, and cover lightly with soil. As the plants grow, gradually fill in the trench. Keep the area weed-free and water regularly the first year. Don’t harvest right away—let the plants establish strong roots. By year 2–3, you can start cutting spears when they’re about 6–8 inches tall. With a little patience up front, asparagus will reward you with fresh harvests every spring for years to come.

A lot of people talk about EMPs, but one of the simplest ways to add a little protection is storing small electronics in a basic Faraday setup. Things like radios, flashlights, backup chargers, and spare batteries can be placed in a metal container with the items insulated from the metal inside. The goal is to create a layer of protection in case of a serious grid event. It does not have to be fancy to get started. Even a simple metal can or metal box, lined properly so the contents do not touch the sides, is better than doing nothing. A backup radio, flashlight, and power bank are probably the first things I would protect. Anybody here built a simple Faraday box yet?

A basic med kit should cover the most common injuries and emergencies at home, in your vehicle, or for when SHTF

What should be in a basic med kit? Start with the essentials: Bandages, gauze, tape, antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment, gloves, scissors, tweezers, thermometer, pain relievers, antihistamines, burn gel, cold pack, emergency blanket, tourniquet, trauma pads, flashlight, and personal medications. A med kit is one of those things you hope you never need, but when you do, you need it ready. Check it. Restock it. Know where it is. What would you add?

Canned Venison

Food storage is not just about stacking cans and hoping for the best. It is about having meals ready when stores are empty, power is out, or money is tight. One of the best ways to preserve meat is pressure canning deer meat. Simple canned deer meat recipe: Cut venison into 1-inch chunks. Pack raw meat into clean hot jars. Add 1 teaspoon of salt per quart if desired. Do not add liquid, the meat makes its own juice. Wipe rims, add lids and rings, and pressure can at the proper pressure for your altitude. Process pints for 75 minutes and quarts for 90 minutes. When it is done, you have shelf-stable meat ready for soups, stews, tacos, rice, and more. Always use a pressure canner for deer meat. Meat is not safe for water bath canning. Food storage means security. A stocked pantry and preserved meat can make a hard time a whole lot easier.
